👩🍳 Preparation Method
- Prepare the yeast
Place the warm milk in a large bowl. Add the yeast and a teaspoon of the sugar.
Let it stand for about 5–10 minutes, until it becomes slightly foamy. This shows that the yeast is active. - Make the dough
Add the remaining sugar, eggs, melted butter, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt.
Gradually add the flour, mixing until a soft dough forms.
Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for approximately 8–10 minutes. The dough should become smooth and elastic.
If it feels extremely sticky, add a little flour at a time. Avoid adding too much, because you want the finished ring to remain soft.
- Let the dough rise
Place the dough into a lightly greased bowl.
Cover it with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap and leave it somewhere warm for approximately 1–1½ hours, or until it has roughly doubled in size.
This is an important stage because the rising dough creates the light, tender texture of the finished bread.
🍊 Preparing the Filling
While the dough rises, prepare the filling.
Mix the softened butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, chopped nuts, dried cranberries or raisins, dates, and orange zest.
The mixture should be spreadable rather than liquid.
The combination of cinnamon, orange, nuts, and dried fruit gives the ring its wonderful holiday aroma.
⭐ Forming the Holiday Ring
When the dough has doubled in size, gently press it down to release excess air.
Roll it into a large rectangle, approximately ¼ inch thick.
Spread the filling evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges.
